It was time for another sexy routine and since the 50 Shades of Grey soundtrack is so big in the pole world right now (see here!), I decided to go with another slinky song from the movie. The music video is pretty intense and in your face, so I wanted to try to emulate that a little bit in my routine. I did throw in some vagina monsters, but tried to keep it classier. Classy vagina monster? Sure, why not. We recorded the choreographed routine, but then since it was so short and we liked the song, we decided to end the class with a freestyle. I haven’t freestyled in a long time and I’d forgotten how exhausting it can be! Especially when you have an audience – both at the time and recorded for the future. Definitely something I need to work on!
I wanted to dance to something a little outside of my comfort zone: this isn’t a song I would normally pick. I love the easy-to-hear beats, and I was really pleased with the little spin combo I discovered at the beginning. Sometimes I think a routine will be great, and it’s not, and others I’m just fine with being ok (because I can’t be amazing EVERY week!), and every now and then, the ok routines end up being unexpectedly cool! I ended up quite happy with this routine, even though there’s nothing particularly unusual about it. The moves just felt right to me and i was able to lose myself a little bit in the choreography.
On Saturday, February 7th I taught two workshops at Bittersweet Studios: a sweet and flirty chair dance to Marilyn Monroe’s “I Wanna be Loved by You” and a down and dirty floor dance to Sofia Karlberg’s version of Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love”. The chair dance was fun and quite simple, without any experience in dance, pole, chair, or floor required. The floor routine, however, was a bit more difficult and required some rolling, which some people find challenging. A couple of the girls in the workshop also come to my Poleography class and they requested that we work on it this week. So we did! Even though it looks slow and controlled, this is a pretty exhausting routine. I think it’s all those “ab-rollers”, as I call the move where you roll your hips around in a push-up position and slide on the tops of your toes. Socks or stripper heels are definitely required for that one!
This song is just beautiful. One of my friends and another instructor at Bittersweet Studios showed me the music video soon after it came out, and it just blew me away. And of course, yesterday this fantastic video was all over Facebook.
After last week’s sexy Britney Spears routine, it was time to bring it down to something a little more simple and pretty. I’d been wanting to move to this song for a while, and while my brain decided to just go to mush every time I went to choreograph for it, I’m glad I did. I’m not particularly happy with what came out, and I would move VERY differently to this song if it were just for me and not a class. Maybe one day I’ll freestyle to it and see what comes out. For now though, this will have to suffice. I’m sorry the video quality isn’t great: I tried a new camera, but it doesn’t play well with dark lighting. Soon I should have a much better camera!
