I don’t remember what I was looking for when I stumbled across this song on YouTube, but I love it! It’s so pretty, and all of her songs are on the shorter side which makes them perfect for poleography classes where I aim for about 2 minutes. There are a few cheesy moments in here, but overall I really like this routine and might revisit this song for something else later.
I’m a teacher and school started up last week, so I put this routine together in the few hours after school and before I teach pole classes on Monday. I was exhausted, but something about needing a stress reliever and the time crunch forced me to just move through the music. I don’t like the stress of not having any of a routine done just hours before I’m supposed to teach it, so I don’t want to make a habit out of it, but sometimes my favorite routines come out of that last minute rush.
I saw this amazing video on Facebook and fell in love. I knew I had to do it for poleography class one day. I tried learning it, and quickly realized that I just don’t move that quickly! That forward roll to a spinup was just a bit too fast for me, so I knew my students wouldn’t like it at all! I changed it up a bit and added a combo at the end, but the beginning is almost exactly from Kristy’s kickass choreography. My dream is to one day visit Australia and take classes with all the great dancers there!
I say this almost every week, but finding new music is hard! Thankfully, I joined a group on Facebook that has a new song every two weeks for a choreography challenge, so even though this song didn’t immediately speak to me, I had a song to use that was challenging for me. I ended up really liking what I came up with, and it was exactly the centering kind of music and movement I needed before competing at Pole Sport Organization’s Nationals! (Post about that coming as soon as I have the professional video.)
I never know what types of songs/dance will get the most attendees in my classes, but apparently this was not one of them! Or maybe people were just busy…
As I have said before, I am ALWAYS looking for song suggestions! I almost never listen to music that isn’t some kind of club dancey music, so I rarely come up with the more contemporary/dramatic songs on my own unless I hear them on the radio. If it were up to me, I’d teach exclusively sexy heels routines! Thankfully, one of my students suggested this version of Titanium by Sia, so I had somewhere to start this week (thanks Kristin!). I’m really focused on preparing for Nationals in just over a week, so my head is totally not in the choreographing game right now and I had a hard time staying focused putting this routine together, which is why it’s pretty short. I generally aim for about 2 minutes of choreography, and I found a good stopping place in this song at 2:18, but I just fizzled out at 1:15, so that’s all we did. We did attempt to freestyle at the end for the remaining minute, but none of us were happy with the outcome, so that video shall remain private. I have one more slower and dramatic song for next week, and then I’m back with a super sexy and heels-requiring routine the Monday after Nationals!
